What is Drug Addiction DOT

Addiction – the irresistible compulsion to use alcohol and other drugs despite adverse consequences.  Addiction is characterized by repeated failures to control use, increased tolerance and increased disruption in daily life. Addicts are trapped in their behaviors and cannot simply quit on their own. They have an illness that generally requires both medical and psychological assistance. 

Nearly 1 in 4 (24%) of employed males 18-24 use marijuana at least once a month. Approx. 1 in 11 (19%) in this group uses cocaine at least once a month.  68% of companies with testing programs have had to deal with incidents of employee drug abuse in the last year. When alcohol is included , the percentage increases to 95%.
