Approaching the Helicopter

  • Stay in view of the Pilot when first approaching the helicopter.
  • Make eye contact with the assigned pilot.
  • Approach at a 45° -90° angle to the side of the helicopter.
  • Know the location of the Tail Rotor and its dangers.
  • Do not pass under the helicopter’s tail boom at anytime!  Once the Tail Rotor is turning rapidly, it becomes difficult to see.
  • Do not step on “Pop Out” flotation assembly to board the helicopter.
  • Use the step assembly provided.
  • Observe the Caution sign provided.
