Motorcycles and Smaller Vehicles

Bicyclists and Motorcyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as other drivers when they hit the road. Due to motorcycles being less secured on the road, it is important to take extra precautions to avoid any collisions and injuries.

Motorcycles:

  • Motorcycles are able to stop in a quicker time than cars, be sure to not ride the tails of motorcycles to avoid sudden stops. When you are driving behind a motorcycle, allow 4 seconds between you and the motorcycle to give leeway and comfort for the cyclists.
  • Be aware of your states motorcycle laws, in some state’s motorcycles can legally travel between lanes, when in heavy traffic be alert when switching lanes.

Bicycles and other smaller vehicles:

  • Remember that most small vehicles have the same rights as other drivers on the road. Be ready for bicycles to merge into the flow of traffic for any necessary turns or to avoid obstacles.
  • Bicycles have the least amount of safety on the road, so it is important to make sure that all precautions are taken to avoid causing collisions and/or injuries.
