State and Operator Variations
States and operators further restrict air transport of dangerous goods by establishing variations to the IATA regulations.
- States variations
- Identified by a three-letter code plus variation number
- Two letters represent the country, followed by a “G”
- Two-digit number identifies the variation
- Listed alphabetically by country-code in section 2.8.2
Examples: United States – USG-01 Japan – JPG-26
- Operators variations
- Identified by two character alpha-numeric or letter combination plus variation number
- Two-digit number identifies the variation
- Listed alphabetically by operator code in section 2.8.3
Examples: FedEx – FX-01 United Parcel Service – 5X-08
- An IATA regulation that is stricter than a variation must be followed
- A variation that is stricter than the IATA regulation must be followed
