Stretching has a variety of benefits, stretching throughout the day and daily increases blood flow and flexibility. Stretching also encourages movement throughout the day and allows for mental breaks.
Remember when stretching to take mini breaks throughout the day. Do not work through these breaks as they are important for avoiding mental fatigue. When you are stretching throughout the day it is important to hold the stretch for 5-30 seconds, hold at a point of mild tension. Passing this point can result in an injury.
Lower Back Stretch
While seated, cross your right leg over your left leg. Rest your left elbow/forearm on the thigh of your right leg then look over your right shoulder. Gently twist your torso toward the right side and hold for 20 seconds. Repeat steps 1 – 4 with the opposite side.
