Supervisor Responsibilities

Supervisors and managers are required to observe and monitor the performance and behavior of all employees. If an employee’s actions are suspicious, the supervisor or manager must address these concerns. When intervening with a suspected substance abuser, never:

  • Accuse
  • Diagnose
  • Threaten
  • Pass Moral Judgment
  • Keep Detailed Documentation
  • Use Fairness In Every Facet of Response
  • Promptly Respond If An Employee Exhibits A Substance Abuse Problem
  • When Handling A Substance Abuse Situation, Always Notify A Member of Management and/or Human Resource
