Portable grinding tools must be equipped with safety guards to protect workers not only from the moving wheel surface, but also to protect them from flying fragments due the abrading of material or the wheel failure.

Corded power tools should not be suspended by the cord and should not be unplugged by pulling on the cord. You should hold the plug when you are disconnecting them from the outlet.

  • Always wear both safety glasses and a face shield when grinding.
  • Turn off the power and unplug when not in use.
  • Never clamp a portable grinder in a vise.
  • The maximum angular exposure of the grinding wheel periphery and sides for safety guards on portable grinders shall not exceed 180 degrees.
