Power Lines

What to do if a crane or other machinery contacts an energized power line:

• Everyone must stay exactly where they are. DO NOT MOVE.
• Keep everyone away from machinery that contacts a power line or a downed line. It could be electrified and dangerous.
• Do not touch any person who is in contact with electrified equipment or a power line.
• Do not touch any person in the area of the crane. If you’re in or on equipment that has contacted a power line, avoid leaving it until contact with the power line is broken.
• If you must leave equipment that has contacted a power line, jump away from it, making sure you do not touch the ground and any part of the equipment at the same time. Then move slowly away from the area, “shuffling” your feet to keep both in contact with the ground.
• If there is an injury or fire, call 911.
