Scissor Lifts Hazard Precautions


Nationally, one of the most common and deadly hazards associated with aerial lifts is electrocution from contact with electrical wires and conductors. ANSI and OSHA standards specify minimum safe distances that are to be maintained while working in an aerial lift

Aerial lifts can make your job much easier thanks to their mobility and flexibility but they also represent a safety risk. Take a look at these common aerial lift safety hazards and follow our simple tips to avoid them.

Collision Hazards – Be aware of boom position when rotating turntable. Do not lower boom unless area below is clear of personnel and obstructions. Check work area for overhead obstructions or other possible hazards

Battery Safety – Explosion Hazards, Burn Hazards , Battery fluids highly flammable – NO Smoking! Battery fluids are an acid! Wear proper PPE and do not contact battery terminals or cable clamps with tools that may cause sparks! Follow Battery Safety and Electrocution Hazards. Inspect for damage cord, cables and wires daily and replace before operating. Avoid Lifting Hazards – Use proper lifting techniques and appropriate number of people Sealed Battery check for bulges.

Performing risk assessment will also state the training need if identified. Note: There may be some equipment specific changes in the risk assessment depending on the specific MEWP used – Scissor lift or Boom lift MEWP. This should be considered when carrying out the risk assessment.
